Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you wrote variance commentary that changed a decision, not just explained a number.

What they are checking: Whether their commentary points to risks and actions, which is what senior leaders actually read it for.

You lead two finance professionals. Tell me how you've helped someone on your team take on work they weren't ready for yet.

What they are checking: Whether they develop people deliberately or just hand off tasks and review the output.

Tell me about a process you standardized or automated in a reporting cycle. What did it save and what did it cost to get there?

What they are checking: Whether their improvement work produced measurable results and whether they are honest about the effort it took.

What would you do

How do you decide whether a balance sheet movement is material enough to escalate?

What they are checking: Judgment about thresholds and context, since escalating everything is as unhelpful as escalating nothing.

How would you run capital budget consolidation so that late submissions from regions don't hold up the whole Plan cycle?

What they are checking: Process discipline and the ability to keep a multi-region consolidation on schedule without chasing people every day.

A commercial leader pushes back on your forecast because it makes their region look worse. How do you handle that conversation?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold an objective number under pressure while still keeping the business partner relationship intact.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build a balance sheet forecast for a global commercial organization across Actuals, Plan, LBE and LRP.

What they are checking: Whether they understand how balance sheet planning links to the income statement and cash, not just how to fill in a template.

Global DSO jumps four days quarter over quarter. How do you figure out what happened and what do you tell leadership?

What they are checking: Whether they can break a working capital metric into mix, region and timing drivers before calling it a problem.

You coordinate the quarterly intangible asset impairment assessment with Commercial Finance, R&D and Corporate Accounting. What inputs matter most, and where do things usually go wrong?

What they are checking: Whether they know impairment testing depends on forecast assumptions owned by other teams and how fragile that handoff is.

Describe a SOX control you owned. How did you show an auditor it was operating effectively?

What they are checking: Whether they treat controls as real evidence-backed work rather than a checkbox before the audit.
