Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a capital project you managed at a facility. How did you keep it on budget while the plant kept running?

What they are checking: Whether they can run project work around live operations without causing downtime or surprise costs.

Describe a maintenance strategy change you made that improved efficiency. How did you measure the result?

What they are checking: Whether they bring real improvement with numbers behind it, which is what the role says it wants.

You sit between operations, leadership and vendors. Tell me about a time those groups wanted different things.

What they are checking: Whether they can act as a real liaison who finds a workable answer instead of picking whoever ranks highest.

How do you develop the facility management professionals on your team so they can run things without you?

What they are checking: Whether they build capability in others or keep every decision on their own desk.

What would you do

You'll oversee manufacturing facilities with HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. How do you decide which maintenance gets done this week when the list is longer than your team?

What they are checking: Whether they prioritize by risk to production and safety rather than by whoever shouts loudest.

A key vendor keeps showing up late and the work quality is slipping. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they manage vendors with clear expectations and documentation rather than just complaining or replacing them blindly.

A rooftop unit fails on the hottest day of summer and production is complaining about heat on the floor. Walk me through your next few hours.

What they are checking: Whether they handle an emergency in a calm order: safety, temporary relief, communication, then root cause.

About the work

What regulatory requirements have you been responsible for at an industrial site, and how did you stay ahead of them?

What they are checking: Whether compliance is a system they run on purpose or something they react to after an inspection.

What numbers do you look at every week to know whether a facility is healthy?

What they are checking: Whether they manage with data such as work order backlog and PM completion rather than gut feel.

How would you build a case to leadership for replacing aging equipment rather than continuing to repair it?

What they are checking: Whether they can make a cost and risk argument that a finance-minded leader will actually approve.
