Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you had to explain a technical tradeoff to a project leader so they could decide.

What they are checking: Whether they can present clear options and data, which the posting lists as a key duty.

How do you mentor less experienced engineers on your project team?

What they are checking: Whether they help others grow, which is expected of a senior engineer.

Tell me about the most complex product you've helped develop. What was your role?

What they are checking: Whether they've led technical work on mid to high complexity projects.

How do you stay current with new technology in power tools or mechanical design?

What they are checking: Whether they keep learning, which the posting says the team values.

What would you do

You disagree with a global engineering team about a design direction. How do you work it out?

What they are checking: Whether they can resolve disagreements with data and respect across teams.

The project is behind schedule and the team wants to skip a test. What do you recommend?

What they are checking: Whether they protect quality and explain risks clearly when schedules are tight.

About the work

On a fastening power tool like an impact driver, what are the main design tradeoffs you'd be balancing?

What they are checking: Whether they understand torque, speed, size, weight and durability tradeoffs in fastening tools.

How would you set up a test regimen for a new gear train or impact mechanism?

What they are checking: Whether they can design tests on their own that find failures before customers do.

Your prototype fails a drop test. How do you approach the root cause?

What they are checking: Whether they use structured root cause methods and data instead of quick fixes.

How do you use simulation like FEA versus physical testing in your design work?

What they are checking: Whether they know when simulation is enough and when they need real-world data.
