Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Cloud Operations here builds and runs cloud applications that support clearing, exchange and data products. What's the most critical system you've operated in the cloud, and what kept it reliable?

What they are checking: Whether they have owned production cloud systems where failure has real business or market consequences.

Tell me about a time you automated away a manual operations task. What did it save, and what broke along the way?

What they are checking: A practical automation mindset and honesty about the problems that come with changing how operations work.

Tell me about a post-incident review you led or took part in. What changed afterward?

What they are checking: Whether they learn from incidents in a blameless way and follow through on fixes that prevent repeats.

What would you do

A clearing service in the cloud starts timing out during market hours. Walk me through your first fifteen minutes.

What they are checking: Structured incident triage under time pressure, starting with impact and communication instead of jumping to random fixes.

A development team wants to deploy a change during the trading day that you think is risky. What do you do?

What they are checking: Judgment about change risk in a market environment and the ability to push back constructively on timing.

About the work

How do you manage infrastructure as code across many environments without drift creeping in?

What they are checking: Hands-on discipline with tools like Terraform and the process that keeps production matching what is in the repository.

How would you design a cloud network for a regulated financial workload that needs strong isolation and private connectivity back to on-prem?

What they are checking: Working knowledge of VPC design, private links and segmentation that a financial infrastructure firm will expect.

What's your approach to identity and access management in the cloud? How do you keep least privilege from slowing teams down?

What they are checking: Whether they can make secure access the easy default instead of a source of friction and workarounds.

How do you build monitoring and alerting so the team hears about problems before customers do?

What they are checking: Understanding of observability that focuses on user impact rather than collecting every metric available.

How do you think about cloud cost when you design and run applications?

What they are checking: Whether they treat cost as an engineering concern they own, not a bill someone else reviews later.
