Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you stopped work or raised a concern in the field. What happened next?

What they are checking: Whether they have the confidence to act on a hazard and the judgment to do it in a way that keeps the relationship intact.

How do you spend a typical day in the field so that workers see you as useful rather than as someone checking up on them?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that daily presence and help are what make deployed safety staff effective.

Tell me about a safety improvement you helped drive that actually stuck. How did you measure that it worked?

What they are checking: Whether they can move from spotting problems to delivering lasting change with evidence behind it.

What would you do

How would you explain Integrated Safety Management to a front-line crew that thinks safety is just paperwork?

What they are checking: Whether they can make the ISM functions real for workers and earn trust instead of lecturing.

This role supports electrical work, nuclear waste operations, fire protection, roads and grounds and more. How would you get up to speed on hazards across that many different areas?

What they are checking: Whether they have a practical plan to learn many trades quickly and know when to bring in a subject expert.

A line manager wants to push a job forward and sees your safety review as a delay. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold a safety line while still helping the manager get the work done, acting as a partner rather than a roadblock.

During an emergency response exercise, you notice responders skipping a step in their procedure. What do you do in the moment and afterward?

What they are checking: Whether they balance not disrupting a live response with making sure the gap gets fixed through the right channel.

How would you build a working relationship with the Infrastructure Services and Security and Emergency Services leadership in your first few months?

What they are checking: Whether they see the role as a strategic link to management, not just a field inspector.

About the work

What does a good hazard analysis for a maintenance job look like to you, and what do people most often miss?

What they are checking: Whether they can spot the gaps in work planning before a job starts, which is where most injuries are prevented.

Which DOE orders and safety requirements have you worked with, and how did you check that a work group was meeting them?

What they are checking: Whether they have real experience with DOE compliance or only general OSHA background.

Walk me through how you would investigate a minor injury or near miss on a custodial or vehicle maintenance crew.

What they are checking: Whether they look for root causes and system fixes instead of blaming the individual who got hurt.
