Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

How do you handle a patient who is angry about the wait?

What they are checking: Whether they can calm an upset patient without losing patience, because waits are common in walk-in care and frustration lands on the nurse.

Tell me about a time you helped start a new process or service.

What they are checking: Whether they are comfortable helping build something new, because a newly opened department needs nurses who adapt as its processes change.

What would you do

This Walk In Care is new and modeled after urgent care. How would you help shape the way it works?

What they are checking: Whether they can help build processes rather than just follow existing ones.

A walk-in patient has chest pain and sweating. What do you do, knowing the ER is on campus?

What they are checking: Whether they spot a cardiac emergency fast and move the patient safely to the ER, because minutes matter even with help on campus.

You'll work closely with a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. How do you support them during a busy shift?

What they are checking: Teamwork with an advanced practice provider in a fast setting.

How do you manage 12-hour shifts and stay sharp late in the day?

What they are checking: Whether they have real habits for staying alert and safe late in long shifts, because fatigue is when assessment and medication errors creep in.

About the work

How do you triage several walk-in patients who arrive at once?

What they are checking: Whether they triage by severity rather than arrival order, because several walk-ins at once can hide the one who is truly sick.

What urgent care skills do you bring, like wound care, splinting or IV starts?

What they are checking: Whether they bring hands-on urgent care skills like wound care, splinting and IV starts, because those tasks fill most walk-in shifts.

How do you make sure discharge instructions are understood before a patient leaves?

What they are checking: Whether they confirm understanding before discharge, because unclear instructions are a common reason patients return or get worse at home.

How would you decide whether a patient belongs in Walk In Care or should go to the ER?

What they are checking: Clinical judgment about acuity and the limits of the clinic.
