About your past

Tell me about a patient whose breathing worsened on your shift.

What they are checking: Recognition and escalation, told about a real patient.

Three twelve hour nights with a weekend rotation. How does that fit your life?

What they are checking: Honest fit with the schedule the posting states.

Tell me about a time you were not sure and had to ask.

What they are checking: Whether they ask, which matters more early in a career than what they already know.

Why respiratory care?

What they are checking: Whether the choice was deliberate, which usually predicts how long they stay.

What would you do

You are called to a clinical emergency overnight. What are you doing in the first two minutes?

What they are checking: Whether they have a structure for an emergency rather than improvising.

When would you call the physician, and when would you act under protocol?

What they are checking: Where the boundary sits, which matters more at night with fewer people around.

How do you decide who to see first when several therapies are due at once?

What they are checking: Prioritization, which is the whole shift in respiratory care.

How do you teach a patient to manage a respiratory condition at home?

What they are checking: Patient education, which decides whether they come back.

About the work

Tell me where you are with licensure and what care areas you have worked in so far.

What they are checking: Where they are in their career, since this is the entry level of the practitioner ladder.

Walk me through delivering an ordered therapy and assessing whether it worked.

What they are checking: Whether they assess and adjust, rather than deliver a treatment and move on.
