Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

whether the candidate can triage and organize workload safely under real floor pressure

Tell me about a time a patient or family member became upset or agitated with you. What did you do?

Describe a situation where you caught an error before it reached the patient, or where you made one yourself.

honesty and judgment around patient safety culture and reporting errors rather than hiding them

For new grads: what part of nursing school clinical rotations felt hardest for you, and what did you do about it?

self-awareness and coping strategy for new grads without inflating experience

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a physician or provider about a patient's care plan. What happened?

clinical reasoning and recognition of deterioration, not just textbook knowledge

What's your understanding of the difference between ACLS and BLS, and when would you use each?

baseline clinical certification knowledge relevant to critical care and med surg deterioration events

How would you handle a two-person sliding transfer for a patient who weighs around 150 pounds and is combative?

physical safety awareness and body mechanics given the lifting and transfer requirements listed

What does evidence-based practice mean to you, and can you give an example of using it at the bedside?

whether the candidate connects clinical decisions to standards rather than habit alone

Situational

We have Medical Surgical, Critical Care, and Float Pool openings. Which are you interested in, and why that one over the others?

whether the candidate has thought realistically about acuity and pace, not just applying anywhere

If you were floating to a unit you don't normally work on and got an assignment you weren't confident with, what would you do?

willingness to speak up and use resources rather than quietly struggle, given float pool needs

This unit works 3 twelve-hour shifts with a rotating every-third weekend and holiday coverage. How does that schedule fit your life right now?

honest fit with the actual shift and weekend/holiday demands before they accept an offer

If you noticed a coworker was overwhelmed and falling behind on their patients, what would you do?

teamwork instinct and willingness to step in, which matters heavily on 12-hour shifts with rotating staff
