Likely interview questions for this role

comfort challenging physicians diplomatically while staying focused on patient safety

Tell me about a bedside conversation with a patient or family that didn't go well at first. How did you turn it around?

Describe a time you identified a high-risk situation during a referral that others might have missed.

cross-team coordination skill and ability to keep multiple stakeholders aligned

What's your experience training or mentoring newer staff, and how would you bring someone new up to speed on this liaison role?

willingness and ability to support onboarding, since the job explicitly includes mentoring duties

Technical

What do you actually check before you say a referral is 'clean' and ready to send to the agency?

Situational

A patient is being discharged tomorrow, the family wants home infusion started immediately, but you don't have the Face-to-Face documentation yet. What do you do?

whether they understand compliance requirements can't be skipped even under time pressure, and how they problem-solve around it

You get a referral for a patient on Medicaid managed care and the authorization process is unclear. How do you figure out what's covered before the patient goes home?

working knowledge of payer variation and persistence in resolving ambiguity under deadline

How would you explain the difference between home health and palliative care to a family who's confused and upset during a stressful discharge?

ability to educate lay people clearly and calmly under emotional pressure

It's Saturday, you're covering the weekend shift, and a discharge planner hands you three urgent referrals at the same time. How do you decide what to tackle first?

prioritization ability and composure during predictable weekend surge periods

Tell me about a time a referral got denied or delayed because of an insurance authorization issue. How did you handle it with the patient and the payer?

persistence and skill navigating insurance verification and authorization roadblocks
