Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you had too many phone messages to return before the end of the day. How did you prioritize?

What they are checking: Whether they sort calls by clinical urgency so the sickest callers are reached first.

Tell me about a time you worked closely with a provider in a busy clinic. What made it go well?

What they are checking: Teamwork with GI providers and staff in a specialty clinic that depends on smooth handoffs.

What draws you to a specialty clinic rather than hospital nursing?

What they are checking: Whether they truly want clinic work, with its phone-heavy days, rather than just regular hours.

What would you do

During a pre-procedure call, a patient mentions they take a blood thinner. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they catch medication risks before a procedure and route them to the provider instead of guessing.

How do you explain bowel prep instructions to a patient who is confused or doesn't read well?

What they are checking: Whether they adjust teaching for health literacy, since a poor prep can cancel or repeat a procedure.

What they are checking: Whether they know the prep, diet and medication instructions that decide if the capsule study is usable.

How does a hydrogen breath test work, and what would you tell a patient to avoid beforehand?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the test well enough to give instructions that prevent false results and repeat visits.

A patient calls with abdominal pain and black stools. How do you triage that call?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize warning signs of a GI bleed over the phone and send the patient to the right level of care.

How do you teach a patient with a new diagnosis like Crohn's disease about their medications and when to call?

What they are checking: Patient education skill that helps people manage chronic GI disease at home and avoid ER visits.

What injections have you given in a clinic setting, and how do you check you have the right drug and dose?

What they are checking: Medication safety habits for clinic injections, where the nurse is often the last check before the patient.
