Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you noticed a subtle change in a patient's condition before anyone else did. What did you see and what did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they trust their own observations and escalate early, which matters when physicians are not on the unit all day.

Tell me about a time you were behind on documentation at the end of a shift. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they treat timely charting as part of patient safety and billing, not as an afterthought.

What would you do

A spinal cord injury patient's family is overwhelmed and keeps asking you the same questions about going home. How do you teach them?

What they are checking: Whether they teach in small pieces, use teach-back, and document it, because discharge success depends on the family.

This is a PRN role. How do you get up to speed on a unit and a set of patients you may not have seen in a couple of weeks?

What they are checking: Whether a per diem nurse can pick up safely and quickly without leaning on the staff for everything.

You're supervising a CNA who hasn't turned a high-risk patient on schedule. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold aides accountable directly and kindly while still owning the outcome for the patient.

A patient refuses to get up for therapy and says they just want to rest. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can respect autonomy while motivating someone, since missed therapy hours affect both recovery and the stay.

About the work

This is an inpatient rehab hospital, not an acute floor. How does your nursing change when the goal is helping someone adapt to a new disability rather than just stabilizing them?

What they are checking: Whether they understand rehab nursing is about function and independence, not only managing the acute problem.

Walk me through how you'd assess a stroke patient on admission to a rehab unit.

What they are checking: Whether their assessment covers swallow, skin, bladder, falls and cognition, the things that derail a rehab stay.

What complications of physical disability do you watch for most closely, and what do you do every shift to prevent them?

What they are checking: Whether they think about pressure injuries, DVT, contractures and infections as preventable, not just treatable.

How do you work the nursing plan of care alongside what PT, OT and speech are doing with the same patient?

What they are checking: Whether they see themselves as part of an interdisciplinary team that carries therapy gains into the rest of the day.
