Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you used patient education to prevent a readmission.

What they are checking: Whether their teaching actually changes what patients do at home, because readmissions often trace back to discharge instructions nobody understood.

How do you work with physicians and other team members to plan a patient's care?

What they are checking: Whether they contribute to the care plan, because outcomes on a busy unit depend on nurses and physicians sharing what they see.

Tell me about a time you felt overwhelmed on a shift. How did you get through it?

What they are checking: Whether they notice when they are overloaded and ask for help, because a nurse who pushes through alone is where errors tend to happen.

What would you do

This role spans acute, med/surg, IMC and ICU. How do you adapt your care as you move between levels of acuity?

What they are checking: Flexibility and an understanding of how monitoring changes with acuity.

Your patient's oxygen level is falling and they are working harder to breathe. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize respiratory decline early and escalate fast, because on nights a slow response to falling oxygen can become a rapid response.

A patient refuses a medication you believe is important. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they respect a patient's right to refuse while still informing them and the provider, because both autonomy and safety matter here.

About the work

How do you prioritize care for a group of patients at the start of a 12-hour day shift?

What they are checking: Whether they can sort a full assignment by urgency, because the first hour of a shift sets up whether anything gets missed later.

How do you safely give blood products?

What they are checking: Whether they know the checks and reaction signs for transfusions cold, because a missed reaction in the first minutes can turn serious quickly.

How do you prevent hospital-acquired infections in your daily care?

What they are checking: Whether infection prevention is a daily habit rather than a checklist, because hand hygiene and line care quietly prevent the complications that lengthen stays.

How do you document care accurately when you are busy?

What they are checking: Whether they chart accurately and on time even when busy, because the record guides the next nurse and protects both the patient and you.
