Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about an incident investigation you led. How did you get from what happened to the root cause?
What they are checking: Whether they dig past blaming the worker to find the system failure, which is what keeps the same injury from repeating.
Tell me about a time an operations supervisor pushed back on a corrective action because it would slow production. What did you do?
What they are checking: Whether they can hold the line on real hazards while still earning the trust of the ag operations team they depend on.
Give me an example of a safety improvement you started that measurably reduced injuries or near misses.
What they are checking: Whether they think in terms of results and leading indicators rather than only reacting to recordable injuries after they happen.
What would you do
You'll be covering receiving plants during cranberry harvest, when trucks, seasonal workers and equipment all peak at once. How would you plan your inspections around that rush?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that seasonal surges change the risk picture and that safety coverage has to shift with the work.
How do you build safety training for seasonal workers who may only be with us a few weeks and may not speak English as a first language?
What they are checking: Whether they can make training stick for a short-tenure, varied workforce rather than just collecting signatures on a sign-in sheet.
How do you keep a safety committee meeting from turning into a list of complaints that never get closed?
What they are checking: Whether they can turn a committee into a working tool that tracks actions to completion and gives employees a real voice.
You get a call that there's been an ammonia odor reported at one of the plants and you're two hours away. What happens in the next thirty minutes?
What they are checking: Whether they know emergency response priorities and can direct people on site by phone instead of waiting to arrive.
How would you divide your time across several plants so each one feels supported and none falls behind on audits?
What they are checking: Whether they can manage a regional territory with planning and prioritization instead of spending all their time at the loudest site.
About the work
Walk me through how you run a hazard inspection at a site you don't visit every day.
What they are checking: Whether they have a repeatable method that catches real hazards instead of a quick walkthrough that only notices the obvious.
Which OSHA standards do you expect to matter most at a plant that receives and stores fruit, and why?
What they are checking: Whether they can connect regulations like lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks and confined spaces to the actual work done on site.
What environmental compliance work have you handled, such as wastewater, stormwater or air permits, and what did you own personally?
What they are checking: Whether their environmental experience is hands-on enough to keep a regional set of plants within permit limits without close supervision.
