Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a patient was anxious or scared before a procedure. What did you say or do to get them to cooperate?

bedside manner and ability to reduce patient anxiety without sacrificing exam quality

Tell me about a time you had to lift or move a patient who couldn't help you. What did you do, and did you involve anyone else?

whether they follow safe patient handling policy including using equipment and a second associate rather than risking injury

This role includes call and rotating coverage with every other weekend. Tell me about your experience working evening shifts, weekends, or call rotations in a hospital setting.

realistic fit with the 11am-7pm, every-other-weekend, on-call schedule

Tell me about a time you were asked to help outside your usual duties, like assisting at the front desk or supporting another department. How did you handle it?

flexibility and team-first attitude, since the posting explicitly wants techs to volunteer for other work

Technical

Walk me through what you do from the moment a requisition comes in to the moment you're positioning the patient for the exam.

whether the candidate follows a real workflow for chart review, history-taking, and pregnancy screening rather than skipping straight to the technical shot

How do you screen and document possible pregnancy for a female patient of child-bearing age, and what do you do if she's unsure or won't answer directly?

knowledge of a specific required safety protocol and how they handle an ambiguous or sensitive real-world answer

Describe how you'd position and set exposure factors for a patient who can't hold still or can't get into a standard position, like an elderly patient or someone in significant pain.

hands-on adaptability with positioning and technique beyond textbook cases

What's your approach to radiation safety on a daily basis, including shielding and collimation, especially with a patient of child-bearing age or a pediatric patient?

whether ALARA principles and shielding practices are second nature, not just something they can recite

How do you adjust the way you explain a procedure or interact with a patient depending on their age, whether it's a young child, a teenager, or an elderly adult?

age-specific competency, which the posting calls out explicitly as a requirement

How do you keep your IDNS and ARRT licensure and CPR certification current, and what's your process for staying on top of department policy updates and manual sign-offs?

personal accountability for compliance items that are easy to let lapse

Situational

A physician's order says one thing but the patient's symptoms suggest something else. What do you do?

judgment about scope of practice and when to loop in the radiologist or ordering provider rather than freelancing

Say you're called in overnight and get an ER trauma patient needing portable films, plus a floor patient waiting for a scheduled exam. How do you prioritize?

triage judgment under pressure and understanding of urgency in a hospital environment

You notice a coworker skipping shielding or cutting corners on positioning to move faster. What do you do?

willingness to speak up on patient safety and adherence to the culture-of-safety expectations named in the posting
