Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to say no to a PTO request or juggle several at once because coverage would have suffered.

how they balance staff goodwill against keeping the department running

How do you decide what supplies to keep on hand, and tell me about a time you had to justify a budget number to your manager.

financial literacy at the department level, not just clinical skill

Tell me about a patient who was visibly frightened or anxious about their exam. What did you actually say and do to get them through it?

whether the calm, reassuring bedside manner the posting emphasizes is real or rehearsed

Describe a time you had to bring a concern from your staff to your manager and advocate for a policy change. What happened?

whether they see themselves as a bridge between staff and management or purely enforcement

Technical

Walk me through how you build a monthly staffing schedule that keeps the exam volume up while keeping staff hours as low as possible.

whether the candidate can actually run the operational math of scheduling, not just describe wanting to be fair

Tell me about how you would train a brand new mammography tech on your protocols, including how you'd sign off on their competencies.

depth of hands-on training ability and understanding of what competency actually means under MQSA

What does MQSA actually require of your department day to day, and how do you make sure everyone stays compliant with it, not just at audit time?

real working knowledge of mammography regulation versus surface familiarity

Walk me through how you position and adjust technique for a patient with a difficult anatomy, say a patient with a pacemaker or a small breast size.

actual clinical competence as a mammographer, since the lead still works the table

How comfortable are you working across IDX, Radnet, Fuji CR, GE PACS, and Penrad in the same shift, and what's tripped you up before with one of those systems?

actual familiarity with the specific systems named, not general EMR comfort

Situational

A tech on your team is consistently missing positioning quality standards but is well-liked by patients. How do you handle that conversation and the documentation that follows?

whether they can give honest, documented feedback without avoiding conflict

A mammography unit goes down mid-morning with a full patient schedule. What do you do in the next thirty minutes?

crisis triage skills and whether they know the escalation and documentation path for equipment failure

You review a prior mammogram in Penrad and notice the history doesn't match what the patient just told you. How do you reconcile that before the radiologist reads the images?

attention to detail in documentation systems and judgment about when discrepancies matter clinically

A radiologist calls with a priority result on a patient who's already left the building. Walk me through exactly what you do.

knowledge of urgent results protocol and follow-through under time pressure
