Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This is an evening shift, 3:00pm to 11:30pm, every other weekend. How have you handled evening work before?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably work the schedule this role needs.

Tell me about a time you had to repeat an image. What went wrong and what did you change?

What they are checking: Whether they learn from repeats, since each repeat adds radiation dose.

Your ARRT and IEMA credentials are required. How do you keep up with continuing education?

What they are checking: Whether they stay current and keep their credentials in good standing.

What would you do

A patient of childbearing age is unsure if she might be pregnant. What do you do before the exam?

What they are checking: Whether they follow pregnancy screening protocol and escalate when needed.

You get an order that does not seem to match the patient's symptoms. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they verify questionable orders instead of just running the exam.

Several stat orders come in from the ED and floors at once. How do you prioritize?

What they are checking: Whether they triage by urgency and communicate delays rather than guessing.

About the work

Walk me through how you would get a good portable chest X-ray on an ICU patient who cannot sit up.

What they are checking: Whether they can adapt positioning and technique for difficult inpatient exams.

How do you keep radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable for patients and yourself?

What they are checking: Whether ALARA is a daily habit for them and not just something they learned for the ARRT exam.

How do you safely transfer a patient who weighs more than you can move alone?

What they are checking: Whether they use lift equipment and ask for help, protecting both the patient and themselves.

How do you handle infection control when imaging a patient in isolation?

What they are checking: Whether they follow precautions and clean equipment properly between patients.
