Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you noticed something during treatment that didn't seem right and spoke up.

What they are checking: Whether they have the courage to stop and question something, which is the core of radiation safety culture.

This is a close team of four therapists and a lead. Tell me about a time you helped a small team through a heavy or stressful stretch.

What they are checking: Whether they pull their weight and support others, since one difficult person changes a small team a lot.

How do you build a relationship with patients you see every day for weeks while still keeping the schedule on time?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance warmth with efficiency in a daily treatment schedule that has little slack.

What would you do

How do you handle a patient who is anxious about their first treatment or is struggling to hold still?

What they are checking: Whether they can calm patients and use immobilization well, since patient comfort and stillness affect accuracy.

A patient in week four tells you their skin is breaking down and they're thinking of stopping treatment. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can support the patient, report side effects to the nurse or physician, and encourage without overstepping.

You're on weekend call about every four to five weeks. How do you handle being called in for an emergency treatment like spinal cord compression?

What they are checking: Whether they are ready for urgent cases and can work safely and calmly outside normal hours.

About the work

Walk me through how you verify a patient's identity and treatment plan before you start a treatment.

What they are checking: Whether they follow a strict time-out every single time, since a wrong patient or wrong site in radiation can't be undone.

Your daily imaging shows the patient's setup is off from the plan more than your tolerance allows. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they know when to adjust, when to re-image, and when to stop and involve the physicist or physician.

What linear accelerators, image guidance systems and record-and-verify software have you worked with?

What they are checking: How much training they will need and whether they understand IGRT and treatment delivery systems in practice.

What morning quality assurance checks do you perform on the machine, and what would make you hold treatments?

What they are checking: Whether they take machine QA seriously and know which results mean treatments cannot go ahead.

How do you keep up with your ARRT continuing education and changes in radiation therapy techniques?

What they are checking: Whether they stay current in a field where treatment techniques and technology change often.
