Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This internship supports quality at a hydraulic valve manufacturer, including inspection, sorting and failure analysis. What draws you to quality work?
What they are checking: Whether they genuinely want quality work, because inspection and failure analysis suit people who enjoy finding problems more than designing things.
How do you stay accurate on inspection work that repeats all day?
What they are checking: Whether they have ways to stay focused during repetitive inspection, because attention naturally drops and missed defects reach customers.
What do you want to be able to do by the end of this internship, and where would you most need help?
What they are checking: Whether they have specific learning goals and are willing to ask for help, which predicts how much they will get from the summer.
What would you do
You're sorting parts and you find a defect nobody has reported. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they would report an unrecorded defect promptly, because quality depends on juniors speaking up rather than assuming someone else knows.
This internship is in Lincolnshire in Summer 2027 and supports the quality and manufacturing groups. Does that timing and location fit your plans?
What they are checking: Whether they can commit to the Lincolnshire site for the full Summer 2027 term, so the placement works for both sides.
About the work
You'd assemble and disassemble hydraulic valves and manifolds for failure analysis. What's your hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies?
What they are checking: Whether they have actually handled mechanical parts and tools, because valve teardown work needs practical comfort beyond classroom knowledge.
The posting names reading and analyzing hydraulic prints. How comfortable are you reading a technical drawing?
What they are checking: Whether they can read hydraulic prints already or learn fast, because print reading is used constantly and quickly separates candidates.
You'd use Six Sigma and lean tools to analyze problems. Which have you used, and on what?
What they are checking: Whether they honestly describe their Six Sigma and lean experience, because overstating tools you have barely used shows up fast on the floor.
You'd assist with measurement system analysis on gauges. What does that actually tell you?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that measurement system analysis shows if a gauge can be trusted, not just how to run the study.
A part fails a test. Walk me through how you'd start working out why.
What they are checking: Whether they start failure analysis calmly and methodically, gathering evidence before guessing, which is what makes root causes stick.
