Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a relationship with an elected official or staffer that you built from scratch. How did you do it?

What they are checking: Whether they earn trust through usefulness and follow-through, not just access at events.

Tell me about an advocacy effort that didn't go your way. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they handle losses maturely and keep relationships intact for the next issue.

Tell me how you've coordinated operational leaders or clinicians to testify or meet with legislators.

What they are checking: Whether they can prepare internal experts to tell a credible, on-message story to policymakers.

What would you do

A bill in Springfield would change hospital reimbursement in a way that hurts the system. Walk me through your first week.

What they are checking: Whether they can quickly analyze impact, brief leaders, build coalitions and engage legislators in a coordinated way.

You represent Endeavor Health on civic committees and at public events several times a week. How do you make sure you speak for the system accurately?

What they are checking: Whether they stay aligned with approved positions and know when to avoid committing the organization.

An elected official asks the system to support a community project that isn't a priority for us. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can say no or redirect without damaging a relationship the system may need later.

About the work

How would you build Endeavor Health's annual advocacy agenda, and who would you involve?

What they are checking: Whether they can set priorities with senior leaders and operations rather than chasing every bill that appears.

How do you keep senior leaders informed about legislation without burying them in updates?

What they are checking: Whether they can filter the noise and tell executives what matters, what it means, and what to decide.

How do local, county, state and federal advocacy differ in practice for a health system in the Chicago area?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how influence works at each level of government and where the system's real exposure lies.

How do you work with trade groups like a state hospital association when their position differs slightly from ours?

What they are checking: Whether they can use coalitions effectively while protecting the system's own interests.

How do you stay within lobbying disclosure and ethics rules while building close relationships with officials?

What they are checking: Whether they know registration, reporting and gift rules and treat compliance as part of the job.
