Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about a bank connectivity setup you configured and tested end to end. What went wrong during testing?
What they are checking: Whether they have actually done the work of certifying a bank connection, including the slow back-and-forth with bank teams.
Describe a time you had to explain a technical connectivity problem to a finance person who didn't care about the protocol.
What they are checking: Whether they can translate technical detail into business impact a treasury team can act on.
Tell me about a time you were juggling several client implementations at once. How did you decide what got your attention first?
What they are checking: Whether they prioritize by client risk and deadline rather than whoever is loudest.
What would you do
You're the Tier 3 escalation and a client's payments are failing somewhere between the bank portal, middleware and our connector. How do you find where it's breaking?
What they are checking: Whether they isolate failures layer by layer with evidence rather than guessing or bouncing the ticket back to the bank.
A client's treasurer wants to skip a payment approval step to save time. How do you handle that conversation?
What they are checking: Whether they protect payment controls and fraud safeguards while still respecting the client's goal of speed.
How would you handle a project where the client's bank is slow to respond and the go-live date is slipping?
What they are checking: Whether they manage third-party dependencies proactively and reset expectations honestly instead of absorbing the delay silently.
About the work
Walk me through how you'd run a discovery session to map a client's end-to-end payment workflows across wire, ACH, SEPA and RTP.
What they are checking: Whether they have a repeatable method for finding bottlenecks and approval gaps instead of just collecting a list of payment types.
A client still sends NACHA and MT101 files over host-to-host. How would you advise them on moving to API-driven bank connectivity?
What they are checking: Whether they can weigh the real risks of a migration against its benefits and sequence it so payments keep flowing.
What's the practical difference between an MT103 and an ISO 20022 pacs.008, and why does it matter to a corporate treasury team?
What they are checking: Whether their message-format knowledge is hands-on enough to explain richer data and its downstream effect on reconciliation.
How do you design test cases for payment initiation before a client goes live with a new bank?
What they are checking: Whether they think about rejects, returns, duplicates and cutoff times, not just a single happy-path payment.
What do you look at to confirm a SWIFT or H2H file exchange is secure and working as intended?
What they are checking: Whether they understand encryption, keys, acknowledgments and status reporting as part of a real connection, not an afterthought.
