Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to shut down or slow a production line for a safety issue. What happened and how did you handle it with the team?

whether safety is a genuine reflex over production pressure, not just a talking point

Tell me about a Kaizen event you led or heavily participated in. What was the before and after, and what got in the way?

hands-on lean experience versus classroom-only exposure to continuous improvement

Tell me about a time equipment downtime kept happening and TPM wasn't getting done. What did you do to actually fix it, not just log it?

follow-through on maintenance issues versus passive reporting

Tell me about a time you had to deliver tough feedback in a performance review and the associate didn't take it well. What did you say and what happened after?

comfort with direct, fair confrontation and follow-up, not just conflict avoidance

This site is transitioning to a future state vision for manufacturing. Tell me about a time you had to lead your team through a change they were skeptical of.

change management skill and credibility with skeptical shop floor employees

Technical

Walk me through how you'd run a root cause analysis, RRCA style, on a recurring quality escape in the assembly or lapping and honing department.

real fluency with structured problem-solving tools versus buzzword familiarity

Describe the SQDC board you used at your last job. What did you actually track daily, and what did you do when a metric went red?

whether they've operated a real daily management system or just heard the term

What's your working knowledge of OSHA regulations relevant to a machine shop floor, and can you give an example of a hazard you caught and corrected?

concrete regulatory knowledge, not just general safety awareness

How have you used 6S in a real production area, and what did you do when the standard started slipping after the initial push?

whether 6S is sustained discipline for them or a one-time event

Situational

You've got two team leaders who don't get along and it's starting to affect handoffs between shifts. How do you handle that?

conflict resolution skill and whether they escalate appropriately or let it fester

An associate on your line is consistently missing their daily production count but their quality is fine. Walk me through how you'd approach that conversation.

balance of coaching versus discipline and whether they dig for root cause before acting

This role covers Assembly and Lapping and Honing at the same time. How would you split your day and attention across two departments with different rhythms?

ability to actually manage a large, mixed area rather than fixate on one department

You're covering weekend supervision and a critical machine goes down with no engineer or maintenance lead on site. What do you do in the first hour?

decision-making and composure with reduced resources and support

How do you decide who to cross-train first when you've got a high-mix production environment and limited time to pull people off the line?

practical prioritization skill and understanding of production impact versus training ideals
