Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you were called to the shop floor for a line-down defect. What did you do first, and how did you decide between a quick containment and a permanent fix?

whether the candidate can triage under pressure and knows the difference between containment and root cause

Tell me about an 8D you led from start to finish. What was the issue, what did the 5 Why or fishbone analysis actually turn up, and did the fix hold after you closed it out?

real depth with structured problem solving versus just naming the tools

Tell me about a time you had to reduce warranty cost or improve MTBF on a product already in the field. What data convinced you where the failure was really coming from?

ability to work reliability problems from field data back to design or process cause

Describe a time you worked with Product Management, NPD, or Compliance to prevent a defect from recurring across other platforms, not just the one it showed up on.

whether they think beyond the immediate fire to systemic design-for-reliability improvement

Tell me about a project where excess and obsolete inventory or product cannibalization became a real problem. How did you manage the tradeoffs?

exposure to material lifecycle management beyond pure engineering problem solving

Tell me about a time you had to influence people outside your reporting line, like plant quality or supply chain, to get an ECN through on time.

cross-functional influence without formal authority

Technical

What's your experience with SAP or Windchill, or a similar PLM/ERP setup, for managing ECNs? What used to slow the process down and what did you do about it?

concrete tool fluency and process ownership rather than passive familiarity

How do you keep bills of material, routings, and drawings matching the actual current build standard when the plant is under pressure to keep the line moving?

discipline around documentation accuracy versus letting shortcuts slide during crunch

What do you know about UL or NEC requirements as they apply to gensets or C&I power equipment, and how has that shown up in your engineering decisions?

whether compliance knowledge is real and applied, not just listed as a keyword

What's an example of visual management or a daily standup process you set up or improved to speed up escalation decisions?

practical experience with tiered escalation and lean-style communication systems, not just familiarity with the terms

Situational

Say a supplier-driven change comes in that affects a BOM across planning, production, and service variants at the same time. How would you make sure nothing falls out of sync?

understanding of configuration management complexity on ETO/CTO/SEQ products

Imagine plant leadership wants a fast fix that you're not confident addresses the real root cause. How do you handle that conversation?

ability to push back on stakeholders without stalling production or burning the relationship

If you're getting the same escalation from three different plants at once, each claiming it's the top priority, how do you decide what to work first?

prioritization skill and calm decision-making under competing pressure
