Tell me about your experience with facial trauma. What's a case that challenged you?

What they are checking: Real depth in facial fractures, which the posting lists by name.

Tell me about a surgical complication you had. How did you handle it with the patient?

What they are checking: Honesty, ownership and how they communicate when outcomes are not what was hoped.

What they are checking: Whether they have genuine interest in teaching and scholarship, which the department encourages.

What would you do

A burn patient is unhappy with scarring months later. How do you approach the visit?

What they are checking: Their scar revision options and how they manage expectations with a frustrated patient.

How do you balance quick procedures like carpal tunnel release with long reconstructive cases on the schedule?

What they are checking: Practical planning for a wide case mix in a busy department.

Much of your work will come from referrals across a multispecialty system. How would you build those relationships?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that referral networks are earned through responsiveness and communication.

About the work

Walk me through your approach to a lower-extremity wound threatening limb salvage in a diabetic patient.

What they are checking: Their reconstructive ladder thinking and work with vascular and wound care teams.

How do you decide when to use hyperbaric oxygen therapy for a wound?

What they are checking: Whether they know the indications and can use the onsite Hyperbaric and Tissue Repair Center appropriately.

How do you counsel a patient about options for breast reconstruction after mastectomy?

What they are checking: Clear explanation of implant versus autologous options and shared decision-making.
