Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a missed or delayed diagnosis you were involved in. What did you learn from it?

What they are checking: Honesty about error and whether they changed their practice afterward.

How do you work with dietitians and other team members on feeding problems or failure to thrive?

What they are checking: Whether they use a multidisciplinary team instead of carrying every piece of care alone.

What draws you to a collegial, established department in a smaller community like Marshfield?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought about rural life and are likely to stay, which matters for continuity.

What would you do

This role is about 90 percent clinic and 10 percent procedures. How do you feel about that balance?

What they are checking: Whether their expectations match a mostly outpatient practice so they stay satisfied long term.

The role includes outreach to other Marshfield Clinic Health System sites. How would you make outreach clinics work well?

What they are checking: Whether they see outreach as real care with planning and follow-up, not just a travel obligation.

How do you prepare a young child and their parents for an endoscopy?

What they are checking: Their attention to pediatric anxiety, consent and clear expectations around procedures.

A primary care doctor three hours away calls about a toddler with poor weight gain. How do you handle that call?

What they are checking: Whether they support referring clinicians helpfully and triage urgency well for distant patients.

About the work

How do you approach a child referred for chronic abdominal pain when the initial labs are normal?

What they are checking: Whether they can avoid over-testing and explain functional pain to families without dismissing it.

Walk me through your management of a newly diagnosed teenager with Crohn's disease.

What they are checking: Current IBD treatment thinking, including when to start biologics and how to monitor.

What do you look for when deciding whether a child with reflux symptoms needs an endoscopy?

What they are checking: Judgment about procedural indications, since unnecessary scopes in children carry real cost and risk.
