Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Why med-peds in a 100% outpatient practice, and why Chippewa Falls?

What they are checking: Whether they truly want full-time clinic work in a small city and are likely to stay.

How do you work with nurses and support staff so the clinic runs smoothly and you are not doing everything yourself?

What they are checking: Whether they delegate well and treat the team as partners, which affects how a busy clinic feels.

How do you manage your time with a full schedule so you are not charting every night?

What they are checking: Whether they have habits that make the flexible four-day week and work-life balance actually work.

Tell me about a patient whose diagnosis you nearly missed. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they reflect honestly on their own errors, which is a sign of a safe and growing physician.

The system encourages physicians to be involved in teaching and research. Is that something you want to do, and what would it look like?

What they are checking: Whether their interests match the system's push toward education and research, or whether they prefer pure clinical work.

What would you do

The nurse line takes first call and your call is 1 in 8 by phone. How do you make good decisions about a patient over the phone at night?

What they are checking: Whether they can triage safely without seeing the patient and know when to send someone to the emergency room.

A parent refuses vaccines for their child. How do you handle that conversation?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep trust with a hesitant family while still giving clear medical advice.

The posting mentions support for job sharing. How would you keep continuity of care for your patients if you shared a panel?

What they are checking: Whether they think about communication and handoffs so patients do not feel bounced between doctors.

About the work

How do you shift between a toddler's well visit and an older adult with five chronic conditions in the same morning?

What they are checking: Whether they are comfortable across the full age range, which is the whole point of the med-peds role.

Tell me how you would manage a teenager with type 1 diabetes as they move from pediatric to adult care.

What they are checking: Whether they handle the transition years well, one of the areas where med-peds training adds real value.
