Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you supervised a PT or PTA student. What did you do when they were struggling?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach and give honest feedback without lowering the standard of patient care.

Which parts of the APTA Code of Ethics come up most often in a hospital setting, and can you give an example?

What they are checking: Whether ethics are part of their daily judgment, such as honest billing and patient autonomy, not just a test topic.

Tell me about a time you had to explain a plan of care to a family who disagreed with it.

What they are checking: Communicating clearly and respectfully with families so they understand goals and support the patient.

What would you do

You are asked to supervise a PTA you have not worked with before. How do you decide what to delegate and how to check in?

What they are checking: Understanding supervision rules and keeping clinical responsibility while still trusting the assistant to do their work.

A physician wants a patient discharged home today, but you do not think they are safe to go up the stairs at home. What do you do?

What they are checking: Advocating for patient safety with clear evidence while working with the team instead of against it.

A patient refuses to get out of bed for therapy for the third day in a row. How do you approach them?

What they are checking: Finding the reason behind the refusal and motivating the patient instead of just charting a refusal.

As registry staff you may work in an unfamiliar area of the hospital with little notice. How do you prepare?

What they are checking: Whether they can work safely and independently in a new setting without needing a lot of orientation.

About the work

This role sees patients from pediatric to geriatric. How does your evaluation change between a child and an 85-year-old after a hip fracture?

What they are checking: Whether they truly adapt assessment and goals by age and development rather than using one template for everyone.

Walk me through how you build a plan of care for a patient admitted after a stroke who cannot yet stand on their own.

What they are checking: Turning evaluation findings into realistic, measurable goals tied to mobility and safe discharge.

The posting mentions coding and billing. How do you make sure your documentation supports the charges for your treatment?

What they are checking: Whether they write notes that justify skilled care, since weak documentation leads to denials and audits.
