Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This role says no experience is required. What draws you to phlebotomy, and how do you feel about needles and blood?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real reason to do this work and will not freeze the first time a draw goes badly.

These are overnight shifts like 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM with rotating days off and holidays. How will you stay sharp and keep that schedule?

What they are checking: Whether they have honestly planned for night work, which is where many new hires struggle and leave.

Tell me about a time you had to do data entry or paperwork accurately while things were busy.

What they are checking: Whether they keep their accuracy up under pressure, since a typo in patient data can send results to the wrong chart.

Tell me about a time you got feedback that was hard to hear. What did you do with it?

What they are checking: Whether a brand-new phlebotomist will take correction well while they are learning a hands-on skill.

What would you do

As a float, you will move between sites in Milwaukee. How do you get comfortable fast in a place you have never worked?

What they are checking: Whether they can learn a new site's layout and people quickly without needing a lot of hand-holding.

A patient tells you they faint when they get blood drawn. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they put patient safety first by positioning the patient and staying alert rather than rushing the draw.

You will draw patients of all ages. How would you approach a scared child versus an elderly patient with fragile veins?

What they are checking: Whether they can adjust their manner and technique to very different patients with patience and care.

You miss a vein twice and the patient is frustrated. What do you say and do next?

What they are checking: Whether they know when to stop and get help, and can keep a patient's trust after a failed attempt.

What would you do if you accidentally stuck yourself with a used needle?

What they are checking: Whether they would report an exposure right away rather than hiding it out of embarrassment.

About the work

Why is it so important to identify a patient correctly before you draw, and how would you do it every time?

What they are checking: Whether they see two-identifier checks as non-negotiable, since a mislabeled tube can lead to wrong treatment.

You will collect specimens for drug screens and paternity tests. Why might those need extra care compared to a routine blood draw?

What they are checking: Whether they understand chain of custody, since these results can be used in court or employment decisions.
