Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

We're looking for behavioral health generalists who see couples and children as well as individual adults. Tell me about the range of clients you've treated.

What they are checking: Whether they truly have generalist range or will need to turn away a large share of referrals.

This role asks for at least 25 sessions a week with 30 hours of availability. How do you manage a caseload that size without burning out?

What they are checking: Whether they have realistic habits for sustaining a full fee-for-service caseload over months, not just weeks.

Tell me about a time you treated a couple where one partner was clearly less invested in therapy than the other.

What they are checking: Whether they can keep a couples session balanced and avoid being pulled into taking one partner's side.

How do you keep your documentation timely and complete when you're seeing five or six clients back to back?

What they are checking: Whether they have a practical system, since late or thin notes create billing and clinical risk in fee-for-service work.

Thriveworks partners with health systems and primary care providers. Tell me about a time you coordinated care with a client's medical provider.

What they are checking: Whether they see mental and physical health as connected and can communicate across disciplines with proper consent.

What would you do

A telehealth client says something mid-session that suggests they may harm themselves, and you're not sure where they are right now. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they handle risk calmly with a clear protocol and know what to confirm at the start of every remote session.

A client keeps canceling at the last minute and missing sessions. How do you address it?

What they are checking: Whether they explore the clinical meaning of the pattern while still setting clear, kind boundaries.

About the work

How do you measure whether a client is actually making progress, and what do you do when the numbers say they aren't?

What they are checking: Whether they use measurable outcomes to adjust treatment rather than relying only on a sense that sessions feel productive.

Your work would be a mix of telehealth and face-to-face sessions. What do you do differently on video to build rapport and keep clients safe?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought through telehealth-specific issues like location verification, privacy and emergency planning.

How do you adapt your approach when your client is an eight-year-old instead of an adult?

What they are checking: Whether they know developmentally appropriate techniques and how to involve parents without losing the child's trust.

Which evidence-based approaches do you lean on most, and how do you decide when to use them?

What they are checking: Whether their methods are grounded in evidence and matched to the client rather than one approach applied to everyone.
