Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
The target here is about 60,000 friction material facings per machine per shift. How have you kept pace on a high-volume press without letting quality slip?
What they are checking: Whether they can hold a steady production rate while still checking parts, instead of trading one for the other.
Tell me about a time you worked from a control plan or check sheet. How did you make sure your entries were honest and on time?
What they are checking: Whether they record real measurements when they take them, since filled-in-later check sheets hide defects.
Tell me about a time you found a problem with a machine that nobody else had noticed. What did you do about it?
What they are checking: Whether they speak up and take ownership of equipment issues instead of waiting for someone else to see them.
What would you do
You'll be setting up one 60 ton press while the other one keeps running. How would you split your attention so neither press gets into trouble?
What they are checking: Whether they can plan their movements and watch a running machine while their hands are busy on a setup.
Your first piece looks close but one dimension is right at the edge of the gauge. Do you run it or call the Floor Leader?
What they are checking: Whether they respect first-piece signoff as a real gate rather than a formality to get past quickly.
The ink jet unit is printing the wrong part number on the material and you've already run a stack. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they stop, contain the mislabeled parts and report it, since wrong markings can reach a customer.
Halfway through a run, your in-process check shows a critical dimension drifting. What's your next move?
What they are checking: Whether they react to a trend before it becomes out-of-spec product, and know when to stop the press.
About the work
Walk me through how you'd adjust a servo feed when you change to a new part number.
What they are checking: Whether they understand that feed length and press timing must match the part, or they will make scrap fast.
What happens to the parts if the press ram height or counterbalance is set wrong, and how would you notice?
What they are checking: Whether they connect machine settings to what shows up on the part, which is how operators catch problems early.
How do you load and thread a new coil through a blanking press, and what do you check on the guides before you start running?
What they are checking: Whether they know the hands-on steps that prevent jams, misfeeds and damaged material at coil change.
Press work can be dangerous. What safety habits do you follow every time you reach into or near a press?
What they are checking: Whether lockout, guarding and hand safety are automatic for them, which matters on fast automatic presses.
