Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you had to learn something complicated quickly, like a new system or job. How did you get up to speed?

What they are checking: Whether they learn actively by asking questions and practicing, which the structured program expects.

Tell me about a time you led a group of people who did not have to listen to you, like a class project or a club.

What they are checking: Whether they have early leadership instincts for earning cooperation from peers without formal authority.

Tell me about a mistake you made at work or school and what you did after you realized it.

What they are checking: Whether they own errors quickly and fix them, which matters in a role that touches customer equipment and money.

Why transportation and logistics, and why Ryder for the start of your career?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real reason for the industry, which predicts whether they finish an 18-month program.

What would you do

This is an 18-month training program and it asks you to be willing to relocate. How do you feel about moving for your next assignment, and what would make it work for you?

What they are checking: Whether their willingness to relocate is real, since the program depends on it and backing out later is costly.

A customer calls angry because their truck was promised by noon and it's now 3 p.m. What do you say to them?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay calm, own the problem and give honest updates instead of making excuses or new promises.

You may one day manage technicians who have been fixing trucks for 20 years. How would you earn their respect as a new college graduate?

What they are checking: Whether they show humility and a willingness to learn from experienced workers instead of leaning on their title.

You are asked to solve a scheduling problem in the shop and two senior coordinators give you opposite advice. How do you decide?

What they are checking: Whether they gather facts and check with their manager instead of picking whoever sounds most confident.

About the work

Ryder leases and maintains trucks for customers. What do you think a customer cares about most when their truck is in our shop?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that downtime costs the customer money and that uptime drives customer retention.

How would you use a number like shop productivity or on-time repairs to figure out where a problem is?

What they are checking: Whether they can reason with operational metrics, which is a core part of the training program.
