Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about a time a patient was not making the progress you planned for. What did you change?
What they are checking: Whether they monitor and revise the plan honestly rather than documenting the same plan week after week.
Tell me about a time you worked with a hospice patient or family where the goal was comfort rather than improvement.
What they are checking: Whether they can shift therapy goals toward comfort and dignity, which this home care and hospice program requires.
What would you do
A patient lives alone and insists they can manage the stairs to their bedroom, but your assessment says otherwise. How do you handle that?
What they are checking: How they balance safety with a patient's right to choose, and whether they find practical middle ground.
How do you help a patient choose adaptive equipment when money is tight or insurance won't cover it?
What they are checking: Whether they know low-cost options and community programs and think about what the patient will actually use.
In a home visit you notice signs that a patient might not be safe, like spoiled food, missed medications or possible neglect. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they recognize when an issue is beyond therapy and escalate to the nurse, social worker or proper authorities.
How do you plan your day when you are driving between several patients' homes and one visit runs long?
What they are checking: Whether they can manage time, travel and patient communication on their own without a team in the next room.
About the work
Walk me through your first home visit with a new patient. What are you looking at in the house before you even start your formal evaluation?
What they are checking: Whether they read the home itself for fall risks, access and setup, since that is where the patient actually has to function.
How do you decide the frequency of visits when you build a home health plan of care?
What they are checking: Whether they tie visit frequency to clear goals and progress instead of picking a default number for every patient.
How do you teach a family caregiver to help with transfers or bathing when you will only be back once a week?
What they are checking: Whether their caregiver teaching sticks, using teach-back and simple steps, because the family does the work between visits.
You may oversee care from an OT assistant or aide. How do you make sure the care they give matches your plan?
What they are checking: Whether they understand supervision rules and stay accountable for care they delegate rather than handing it off.
Home health documentation has to justify continued care. How do you write a note that shows skilled need?
What they are checking: Whether they can show measurable change and skilled intervention in notes, which drives whether patients keep receiving services.
