Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about your CNA experience in a hospital. What patient care tasks did you do most often?
What they are checking: Whether their past work gives them solid hands-on skills the RN can rely on from day one.
Tell me about a time things moved very fast and you still had to stay calm and accurate.
What they are checking: Whether they hold up under the sudden pace of labor and delivery emergencies.
This role works 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday rotations. How have you handled that kind of schedule before?
What they are checking: Whether they can reliably commit to the schedule, which keeps the unit staffed for births that do not wait.
What would you do
You notice the sterile field may have been touched, but the surgeon is ready to start. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they speak up about a break in sterility even when it slows things down, since infection risk is real.
A new mother is crying and anxious before an unplanned C-section. What can you do to help in that moment?
What they are checking: Whether they offer real compassion while still doing their tasks, which the posting names as a requirement.
The RN asks you to do something you have not been trained to do. How do you respond?
What they are checking: Knowing the limits of their role and saying so honestly rather than guessing at a task.
About the work
This role scrubs for surgical procedures on the Mother Baby unit. Walk me through how you set up and maintain a sterile field for a C-section.
What they are checking: Whether they truly know sterile technique well enough to work a cesarean without contaminating the field.
How do you count sponges, needles and instruments, and what happens if the count does not match?
What they are checking: Understanding that a wrong count stops everything, because a retained item is a serious patient harm.
What vital signs or changes in a postpartum patient would make you get the RN right away?
What they are checking: Recognizing warning signs like heavy bleeding or low blood pressure and escalating instead of waiting.
How do you clean and turn over an OR or delivery room so it is ready for the next patient?
What they are checking: Whether they clean thoroughly and quickly, since turnover speed and infection control both matter in OB.
