About your past
This is full spectrum OB/GYN with instant volume, about 600 births a year. What does your current case mix look like, and which parts of the spectrum do you want more or less of?
What they are checking: Whether their training and interests fit a busy full scope practice rather than a narrow subspecialty.
Half a day each week is at a local FQHC providing safety net care. What do you bring to caring for patients with fewer resources?
What they are checking: Whether they understand barriers like transportation, insurance and trust, and adapt their care to fit them.
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a nurse or colleague during labor management. How did it get resolved?
What they are checking: Whether they listen to the team and handle conflict in a way that keeps the patient safe.
You'd have autonomy to build the practice you want. What would you want it to look like in three years?
What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic vision for growing a practice and staying in the community.
Tell me about an obstetric outcome that still stays with you. What did you change afterward?
What they are checking: Whether they can reflect honestly on hard cases and turn them into better practice.
What would you do
You can cover your own after-hours deliveries or sign out to the OB hospitalist. How would you make that handoff safe?
What they are checking: Whether they give a thorough handoff on laboring patients so nothing important gets lost between doctors.
A patient wants a vaginal birth after cesarean and has questions about the risks. How do you counsel her?
What they are checking: Whether they can share risks honestly and support informed choice within what the hospital can safely offer.
About the work
You're managing a patient with a postpartum hemorrhage in one of the LDRP rooms. Walk me through your first fifteen minutes.
What they are checking: Whether they run a hemorrhage response in a clear order and mobilize the team, blood and medications quickly.
The hospital has a Level II nursery. How do you decide when a mother in preterm labor should be transferred before delivery?
What they are checking: Whether they know the limits of the local nursery and plan early for babies who need a higher level of care.
Which gynecologic surgeries do you do robotically, and how do you decide between robotic, laparoscopic or open approaches?
What they are checking: Whether they can use the robot well and choose the approach based on the patient, not just the tool.
