Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This internship sits on the implementation side of a Microsoft business solutions consulting practice. What draws you to consulting rather than working inside one company?

What they are checking: Whether they understand consulting means serving many clients with varied problems, so they know what they are choosing over an in-house job.

The posting says your career could launch in manufacturing and distribution or in the public sector. Which interests you, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they read the posting carefully and can explain a genuine preference, which shows real interest rather than a generic application.

Tell me about a time you had to understand how something worked before you could improve it.

What they are checking: Whether they take time to understand a process before changing it, because that is the core discipline of good consulting work.

Organizational change management is listed as a project type. Why do people resist a new system even when it's better?

What they are checking: Whether they understand fear, habit and workload drive resistance, because implementation success depends as much on people as on software.

How do you keep track of what you're doing when you're on more than one project?

What they are checking: Whether they can organize tasks and time across projects, because consulting involves billable hours and several teams sharing their attention.

What do you want to be able to do by the end of this internship, and what would you find hardest to ask for help with?

What they are checking: Whether they have specific learning goals and are willing to ask for help, which predicts how much they will get from the internship.

What would you do

Business process reengineering means telling a client their current way of working isn't good enough. How would you approach that conversation?

What they are checking: Comfort with the hardest part of the work, even at intern level

You're in a client meeting and you don't understand the term everyone keeps using. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they ask about unfamiliar terms instead of nodding along, because hiding confusion is a common early mistake for new consultants.

This is based in Chicago and consulting usually involves travel to clients. How does that sit with you?

What they are checking: Whether they are prepared for client travel, because consulting work often requires being on site rather than staying in one office.

About the work

What do you know about enterprise systems, and where would you be starting from zero?

What they are checking: Whether they honestly assess their enterprise system knowledge and gaps, because clear self-awareness helps teams know where to support them.
