Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

How do you keep your focus when you are watching many monitors for a whole shift?

What they are checking: Whether they have real habits for staying alert over long shifts, since alarm fatigue is how monitor techs miss events.

Tell me about a time you had to call a nurse who did not respond right away.

What they are checking: Persistence in escalation until someone acts, which can save a life.

Tell me about a time you got feedback that you had made a mistake. How did you respond?

What they are checking: Accepting criticism and feedback, which the posting lists under adaptability.

What would you do

You see a run of ventricular tachycardia on one of your patients. What do you do, step by step?

What they are checking: Fast escalation to the nurse and knowing which rhythms are emergencies.

Two alarms go off at once on different patients. How do you decide which to handle first?

What they are checking: Prioritizing by how lethal the rhythm is rather than which alarm sounded first.

About the work

Walk me through how you identify atrial fibrillation on a telemetry strip.

What they are checking: Basic rhythm recognition skill, since the job is catching arrhythmias quickly.

A strip shows what looks like a flat line, but it may be a loose lead. How do you tell the difference and what do you do?

What they are checking: Telling artifact from a real event without ever assuming it is just a lead problem.

How do you measure a PR interval and a QRS width, and why do they matter?

What they are checking: Interval measurement skill from the arrhythmia training the posting requires.

How comfortable are you with medical terminology, and how would you keep building it?

What they are checking: Whether they have enough medical vocabulary to describe what they see clearly and quickly to the nurse.

How would you document a rhythm change so the nurse and physician can trust the record?

What they are checking: Accurate strip documentation with time, rhythm and who was notified.
