Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a major network outage you managed. How did you lead the response and the review afterward?

What they are checking: Whether they lead calmly during incidents and run blameless reviews that actually prevent repeats.

Describe how you've developed network engineers on your team.

What they are checking: Whether they grow skills across the team, so knowledge doesn't live with one or two people.

What would you do

A site leader complains the network is slow, but your monitoring shows nothing wrong. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they take user experience seriously and investigate rather than dismissing complaints with dashboards.

Your team is overloaded with tickets and can't get to project work. How do you fix that?

What they are checking: Whether they find root causes of ticket volume, automate, and protect time for improvement work.

About the work

How would you run network operations for manufacturing sites spread across several continents, with a team that has to cover all time zones?

What they are checking: Whether they can design follow-the-sun coverage and clear ownership so outages get handled at any hour.

What's your approach to WAN design for factories that can't afford to lose connectivity, such as SD-WAN and redundant circuits?

What they are checking: Whether they understand practical resilience choices and their cost, not just the newest technology.

How do you decide which network changes need formal change control and which can be routine?

What they are checking: Whether they balance speed with risk, since a bad change can stop production at a plant.

How do you manage carriers and network vendors when they miss service levels?

What they are checking: Whether they hold vendors accountable with data and escalation, and know their contract terms.

How do you work with security teams on segmentation, firewall rules and factory OT networks?

What they are checking: Whether they see security as a partner and can build controls without breaking plant operations.

What metrics would you report to IT leadership about network health?

What they are checking: Whether they pick measures leaders care about, like availability and incident impact, rather than raw device stats.
