Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

These are large capital sales with long cycles. Walk me through one you closed from first contact to purchase order.

What they are checking: Whether they know how to keep a multi-year industrial deal alive through budgets, trials and engineering reviews.

Tell me about a time you protected margin on a big deal when the customer pushed hard on price.

What they are checking: Whether they sell on value and hold price instead of trading margin to close faster.

This role means 30 to 70 percent travel. What does a good travel month look like for you, and how do you keep it productive?

What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic sense of the travel load and plan visits around real outcomes.

Tell me about a customer who installed something you sold and was unhappy with early results. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they stay with the customer after the sale and protect the reference account.

What would you do

A mill likes the emissions and energy story but says the capital budget is frozen this year. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they keep an opportunity warm and build a business case instead of walking away or discounting early.

You report to a global sales manager and depend on engineering in another country. How do you keep a customer's technical questions moving across time zones?

What they are checking: Whether they can coordinate global technical support without letting customers feel the distance.

About the work

Explain how electromagnetic stirring or braking improves a steel or aluminum caster's results, as you would to a plant manager.

What they are checking: Whether they can explain the process benefit in terms a melt shop cares about, like quality, yield and throughput.

How would you build a strategic market plan for North American steel and aluminum producers if you started tomorrow?

What they are checking: Whether they can segment a small, concentrated customer base and prioritize where effort pays off.

Who are the people inside a steel mill you need on your side to sell EMS, and how do you reach each of them?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the buying committee in heavy industry, from operators and metallurgists to finance.

How do you size an opportunity at a mill and decide whether it is worth pursuing this year?

What they are checking: Whether they qualify opportunities with discipline so their forecast and travel go to real deals.
