Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time a patient was frustrated or in a lot of pain while waiting to be seen. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm and kind with patients whose pain makes them short-tempered, which is common in rehab clinics.

The posting says you need to follow all relevant regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Give me an example of how you protect privacy at a busy front desk or in a shared hallway.

What they are checking: Whether HIPAA is a habit they practice in small moments, not just a rule they can name.

Tell me about a time you caught a mistake, yours or someone else's, before it reached a patient.

What they are checking: Whether they double-check their work and speak up, which is the core of patient safety for an MA.

What drew you to physical medicine and rehab rather than primary care or another specialty?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the slower, long-term nature of rehab care and actually want that kind of patient relationship.

What would you do

You're doing a medication reconciliation and the patient lists an opioid prescription from another doctor that isn't in our chart. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they record what the patient reports accurately and flag it to the provider rather than judging or ignoring it.

It's 4:30 on a Friday, the provider is running 40 minutes behind, and three patients are still waiting. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate delays honestly to patients and help the clinic catch up instead of hiding from the problem.

How do you handle prior authorizations or refill requests when the phone queue is also backing up?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance the administrative side of the job with clinical tasks without letting either fall behind.

About the work

Walk me through how you room a patient in a physical medicine and rehab clinic, from the waiting room to handing off to the provider.

What they are checking: Whether they have a real, repeatable rooming routine that covers vitals, meds, history and safety without skipping steps.

A lot of our patients come in with chronic pain, spinal cord injuries or after a stroke. How do you adjust the way you move them from the chair to the exam table?

What they are checking: Whether they think about fall risk and safe transfers for patients with limited mobility instead of rushing them.

How do you prepare a room and supplies for a provider who is doing joint or trigger point injections?

What they are checking: Whether they understand sterile setup, consent paperwork and what a procedure visit needs beyond a normal exam.
