Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a competitive analysis you did that changed a business decision.

What they are checking: Whether their analysis leads to action rather than sitting in a slide deck.

Tell me about a time you had to present a recommendation to senior leaders with incomplete data.

What they are checking: Whether they can be honest about uncertainty while still making a clear recommendation.

Tell me about a time curiosity led you to an insight others had missed.

What they are checking: Whether they have the curiosity the team values and turn it into useful findings.

What would you do

Product Management and Sales disagree about which segment matters most. How do you use your research to help them decide?

What they are checking: Whether they bring evidence to a disagreement and stay neutral rather than picking a side.

How would you learn what a ConFab or light industrial customer actually needs from a welding gun?

What they are checking: Whether they go to shops and end users directly rather than relying only on secondary reports.

How do you coordinate with other ITW Welding divisions so you are not duplicating work or competing with each other?

What they are checking: Whether they can collaborate across a decentralized company where divisions have their own goals.

About the work

How would you size an emerging market for robotic welding guns, such as a new automation segment?

What they are checking: Whether they can build a reasonable market estimate from limited data and explain their assumptions.

What do you know about semi-automatic and robotic MIG welding, and who buys each?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the Bernard and Tregaskiss product lines and their different customers.

How would you validate an unmet customer need before Engineering invests in a new product?

What they are checking: Whether they test ideas with real end users before money is committed.

What sources would you use to track market dynamics in manufacturing and automation?

What they are checking: Whether they know where to find credible industry data and how to cross-check it.
