Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an automation project you took from idea to running in production. What went wrong along the way?

What they are checking: Whether they have delivered real automation and learned from the hard parts of implementation.

Tell me about a Lean improvement you made that didn't involve any automation.

What they are checking: Whether they fix the process first, since automating a wasteful process just makes waste faster.

What would you do

You install a new automated assembly cell, and Maintenance says they can't support it. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for training and supportability so automation does not become an orphan.

How would you work with an outside integrator to make sure the system they deliver meets your needs?

What they are checking: Whether they write clear specs and run acceptance testing instead of finding problems after payment.

A new robot cell is hitting only 70 percent of its planned output. How do you find the gap?

What they are checking: Whether they break down losses by cause, like faults, starvation and slow cycles, to find the real constraint.

About the work

How do you decide whether a manual operation is a good candidate for robotics?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh volume, variation, safety and payback instead of automating for its own sake.

What do you need to get right for a machine vision system to work reliably on the floor?

What they are checking: Whether they understand lighting, part presentation and false rejects, which sink many vision projects.

How would you automate loading and unloading on a CNC machining cell?

What they are checking: Whether they can think through fixturing, part variation, safety guarding and changeover for machining automation.

What manufacturing data would you want to collect from machines, and what would you do with it?

What they are checking: Whether they connect data integration to decisions like downtime reduction rather than collecting data for show.

How do you make sure an automated cell is safe for operators and maintenance staff?

What they are checking: Whether they understand risk assessment, guarding and safety-rated controls as part of design, not an afterthought.
