Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a sales compensation plan you designed or changed. What behavior were you trying to drive, and did it work?

What they are checking: Whether they think about incentives in terms of behavior, not just payout math.

Tell me about a time you worked with Legal, HR and Finance on a plan document or policy.

What they are checking: Whether they can move a plan through many functions that each have a say.

How do you explain a plan change to sales leaders so they can explain it to their teams?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate clearly enough that reps understand how they get paid.

What would you do

A top seller says their new territory is unfair and threatens to leave. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can listen, use data and protect fairness without making one-off exceptions.

A large deal closes that does not fit the plan rules cleanly. How do you decide how it gets credited?

What they are checking: Whether they use governance and clear rules instead of ad hoc decisions that set bad precedents.

Senior leadership wants to cut plan costs while sales wants richer accelerators. How do you find a middle ground?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance competing goals with data and propose real tradeoffs.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build territories and quotas for next year from booking targets and market opportunity.

What they are checking: Whether they can turn top-down targets into fair, achievable territory-level numbers.

How do you model the cost of a compensation plan to make sure it is financially sustainable?

What they are checking: Whether they can stress-test payouts across attainment scenarios with Finance.

How do you keep Salesforce, Workday and the commission system aligned so reps are paid correctly?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that bad data in one system becomes a payout error and a trust problem.

How would you tell if quotas were set too high or too low after the first half of the year?

What they are checking: Whether they analyze attainment distribution and pipeline, not just overall totals.

What does your annual sales planning calendar look like, and where does it usually slip?

What they are checking: Whether they have owned the planning lifecycle and know where it breaks down.
