Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a hard-to-fill provider search you closed. What finally worked?

What they are checking: Persistence and creativity on long searches rather than just posting and waiting.

Tell me about a time a candidate had a bad experience with your process. What did you change?

What they are checking: Whether they care about candidate experience as a competitive edge in a tight provider market.

How do you lead and develop a team of recruiters?

What they are checking: Management approach, including setting targets and coaching recruiters through tough searches.

What would you do

Central Illinois is not an easy sell for every candidate. How do you recruit a specialist to a community like Springfield or Decatur?

What they are checking: Whether they can sell community fit and spouse needs honestly, which drives retention as much as hiring.

A service line leader says recruitment is too slow. How do you respond, and how do you look at time-to-fill?

What they are checking: Using data to find where the bottleneck sits and owning their part without getting defensive.

A physician candidate asks for compensation well above what the medical group offers. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Negotiation skill within fair market value limits without losing the candidate or overpromising.

How do you hand a new provider off to operations so they stay past the first two years?

What they are checking: Whether they see onboarding and early retention as part of recruitment success.

About the work

Walk me through your full process for recruiting a physician, from the first workforce conversation to the signed contract and start date.

What they are checking: Whether they truly own the full lifecycle, including credentialing and onboarding timing, not just sourcing.

How is recruiting an advanced practice provider different from recruiting a physician?

What they are checking: Understanding of the separate APP labor market, motivations and supervision arrangements.

How would you work with executive leadership on workforce planning so you are recruiting ahead of need?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn succession, retirements and growth plans into a proactive recruiting pipeline.

What sourcing channels have given you the best physician and APP candidates, and how do you track that?

What they are checking: Whether they measure sourcing results and spend money where it actually produces hires.
