Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You will support physician leaders across the enterprise. Tell me about a physician leader you supported and how you earned their trust.

What they are checking: Whether they can be a credible partner to senior physicians rather than just an order taker.

Tell me about a performance report you built that changed what leaders decided.

What they are checking: Whether their reporting drives decisions instead of just filling a monthly slot.

Describe a strategic initiative you coordinated across several departments. What made it hard?

What they are checking: Project coordination across groups that do not report to them, which is most of this job.

How do you manage a small administrative team while also being a hands-on operator yourself?

What they are checking: Balancing people leadership with individual work in a lean office.

What would you do

You administer medical staff committees. How do you keep a committee on track when meetings drift or decisions do not get recorded?

What they are checking: Skill at running committee operations so decisions are documented, followed up and defensible.

Two physician leaders want your team's time for competing projects this quarter. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Prioritizing against enterprise strategy and escalating trade-offs openly instead of quietly picking a side.

You notice physician stipend payments have been running over budget for three months. What do you do?

What they are checking: Financial analysis instincts and whether they investigate the cause before reporting a number.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build and manage the annual budget for a Medical Affairs division.

What they are checking: Real budgeting depth, including forecasting, variance tracking and explaining overruns to leaders.

What role have you played in physician contracting, and where are the risks in that process?

What they are checking: Whether they understand contract terms, compensation compliance and the cost of getting a contract wrong.

How do you keep Medical Affairs operations compliant when rules on physician arrangements change?

What they are checking: Awareness of regulatory exposure such as Stark and anti-kickback in physician payments and how to stay ahead of it.

What does a high-performing Medical Affairs office look like to you, and how would you measure it?

What they are checking: Whether they have a concrete view of success with measures beyond being busy.
