Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a maintenance job plan you wrote or rewrote. What was wrong with the old one?

What they are checking: The role includes creating job plans, which most technicians have never done.

This is a rotating twelve hour shift, four on and four off. How does that suit you?

What they are checking: Honest fit with a schedule that people either like a great deal or leave over.

Tell me about training a junior technician on something difficult.

What they are checking: The role expects them to train others. This checks whether they can explain their own work.

What is the most satisfying repair you have made?

What they are checking: Whether they like the work itself, which tends to predict who stays.

What would you do

A line is down and production is waiting. Walk me through your first twenty minutes.

What they are checking: Whether they diagnose in order or start swapping parts under pressure.

You are asked to get a machine running in a way you do not think is safe. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they hold a safety line under production pressure.

How do you decide between fixing something now and scheduling it properly?

What they are checking: Judgment about temporary repairs, which is where plants accumulate problems.

About the work

Which trades are you proficient in, and which would you call your strongest?

What they are checking: The posting expects multiple disciplines. This finds the real breadth.

Walk me through a root cause investigation you did on a recurring equipment failure.

What they are checking: Whether they find causes or replace parts until it stops.

What is reliability centered maintenance, and how have you used it?

What they are checking: Whether the term is something they have practiced or read in the posting.

How do you work on equipment in a regulated plant differently from an unregulated one?

What they are checking: Whether they understand what GMP means for maintenance paperwork and change control.

How do you hand over an unfinished job to the next shift?

What they are checking: Handover, which is where a four-on four-off rotation loses information.
