Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

The role uses preventive maintenance to keep interruptions minimal. Tell me about a PM task you improved because it was not catching problems.

What they are checking: Whether they think about why PMs exist and improve them, not just check them off.

You will help train junior technicians. How do you teach someone to troubleshoot rather than just follow steps?

What they are checking: Whether they can build others' skills, which the posting lists as part of the job.

Tell me about a time you worked with limited supervision and had to make a call on your own.

What they are checking: Whether they can be trusted to make sound decisions alone, which a Tech II role expects.

What would you do

Production wants a machine back running now, but you think the repair needs another hour to do right. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they balance uptime pressure with fixing things properly so they do not fail again.

About the work

You will maintain CNC machines, injection molding machines, and custom pump and electrical test stands. Which of those have you worked on, and what was the hardest repair?

What they are checking: Whether their hands-on experience matches Pentair's equipment and how deep their troubleshooting goes.

An injection molding machine keeps faulting on the same alarm every few hours. Walk me through how you find the root cause.

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot systematically instead of clearing alarms and hoping the problem goes away.

How do you read an electrical schematic to trace a fault in a control circuit?

What they are checking: Whether they have real electrical troubleshooting skills, which most production downtime depends on.

Walk me through your lockout tagout process before working on a machine.

What they are checking: Whether they follow LOTO without shortcuts, since it is the most important safety rule in maintenance.

How do you troubleshoot a hydraulic system that is losing pressure?

What they are checking: Whether they understand hydraulics, which are core to molding and pump test equipment.

You will inspect buildings and facility equipment, not just production machines. Tell me about facility work you have done.

What they are checking: Whether they can handle HVAC, air compressors and building systems alongside production equipment.

How do you document a repair so the next tech can learn from it?

What they are checking: Whether they keep clear maintenance records that help spot repeat problems.
