Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the industrial equipment you have maintained. Have you worked on CNC machines, die cast machines or heat treat furnaces?

What they are checking: Whether their experience matches the heavy industrial equipment named in the posting, not just general repair work.

Tell me about a repair you are proud of, especially one other people couldn't figure out.

What they are checking: Whether they have real troubleshooting depth and persistence on hard problems.

How do you hand off an unfinished job to the next shift?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate clearly so the next mechanic doesn't repeat work or walk into an unsafe condition.

What would you do

Production is pressing you to get a die cast machine running fast, but you think the fix needs more time. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they hold firm on a proper, safe repair while keeping production informed of the timeline.

This is a fifth shift position. How does that schedule work for you, and how do you stay sharp on it?

What they are checking: Whether they are realistic about a nonstandard shift and will show up reliably over the long term.

About the work

A CNC machine stops mid-cycle with an alarm. Walk me through how you would troubleshoot it.

What they are checking: Whether they follow a logical path, reading alarms and checking simple causes first, rather than swapping parts randomly.

How do you read an electrical or hydraulic schematic to find a fault?

What they are checking: Whether they can actually use schematics on the floor, which the posting lists as a core requirement.

What is your process for lockout tagout before you work on a machine?

What they are checking: Whether they treat energy isolation as non-negotiable, since shortcuts here lead to serious injuries or deaths.

Why does preventive maintenance matter when the machines seem to be running fine?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that scheduled care prevents expensive breakdowns and isn't wasted time on working equipment.

Have you helped move or set machines or fixtures? What did you watch out for?

What they are checking: Whether they understand rigging and moving heavy equipment safely, which the posting includes in the duties.
