Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a physics-based model you built for an electrical, thermal or mechanical system.

What they are checking: Whether they have built real multi-physics models relevant to energy products.

Tell me about a time your simulation found a design problem before hardware was built.

What they are checking: Whether their work has saved real time and cost in development.

What would you do

A systems engineer wants results next week, but the model needs a month to be trustworthy. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can offer a useful early answer while being honest about its limits.

How do you work with subject matter experts who know the physics better than you in one area?

What they are checking: Whether they collaborate well and use others' knowledge to improve models.

About the work

How would you model the thermal behavior of a battery or power electronics enclosure?

What they are checking: Whether they understand heat generation and cooling well enough to model real products.

How do you decide how much fidelity a model needs for a given decision?

What they are checking: Whether they match model detail to the question, which saves time and keeps results useful.

How do you validate a model against test data, and what do you do when they don't match?

What they are checking: Whether they treat mismatches as information and calibrate carefully.

How would you set up modeling and simulation as a formal milestone in the product development process?

What they are checking: Whether they can build process, which the posting says they will develop and oversee.

What tools have you used, like MATLAB, Simulink or others, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they have depth in common modeling tools for power and energy systems.

How would you model a distributed energy resource connected to a power distribution system?

What they are checking: Whether they understand system-level behavior in DER and grid applications.
