Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a lab inspection or survey you helped prepare for. What did you find and fix beforehand?

What they are checking: Whether they find problems before inspectors do, which is the real point of compliance work.

Tell me about a time you found a pattern of errors and changed the process to stop it.

What they are checking: Whether they fix root causes instead of retraining one person over and over.

What would you do

A medical office's QC fails, but they ran patient tests anyway. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they stop testing, look back at affected results and fix the process instead of just documenting it.

A practice manager pushes back on extra QC steps because they slow down the clinic. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Explaining why the rules exist and finding workable solutions without giving up compliance.

About the work

This role fills the CLIA technical consultant and technical supervisor requirement for our medical groups. What does each of those roles actually require you to do?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the legal duties behind the titles, since a gap here can put the lab's certificate at risk.

How would you set up quality control and calibration for a point-of-care instrument at a physician office?

What they are checking: Whether they can build a QC process that small office staff will actually follow correctly.

How do you train non-lab staff, like medical assistants, to collect and process samples correctly?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach in plain language and check competency, not just hand out a policy.

How do you make sure staff competency assessments are complete and on time across several locations?

What they are checking: Whether they have a tracking system, since missed competencies are a common citation.

How do you write a lab procedure so it is clear and followed the same way every time?

What they are checking: Whether they write procedures for real users, which prevents variation in testing.

What phlebotomy, safety and infection control issues do you see most often in outpatient settings?

What they are checking: Whether they know common real-world mistakes and can coach staff to prevent them.
