Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you developed someone on your security team. What did you do and how did it turn out?

What they are checking: Whether they actually build team capability, which the role names as a core responsibility.

How would you explain our biggest cybersecurity risks to business leaders who aren't technical?

What they are checking: Translating risk into business impact so leaders can make decisions, which drives funding and support.

Tell me about a security process you improved. What was broken and how did you measure the improvement?

What they are checking: Continuous improvement backed by evidence, not just new tools added on top of old problems.

What would you do

You'd oversee our managed security service provider. How do you hold an MSSP accountable when their alerts are noisy or slow?

What they are checking: Vendor management skill, since much of the security work runs through an outside provider that needs clear expectations.

A plant manager wants a vendor to have remote access to a machine tonight to fix a breakdown. What do you do?

What they are checking: Balancing production urgency against security risk and finding a safe path instead of a flat no.

What would you do in your first 90 days to understand where our security program stands?

What they are checking: Whether they listen and assess before changing things, and know which gaps to look at first.

How do you work with a Risk and Controls team during an audit when they want evidence your team hasn't been collecting?

What they are checking: Partnership with compliance functions and the habit of building evidence into daily operations.

About the work

Walk me through how you'd run an incident from the first alert to the post-incident review.

What they are checking: A practiced incident response process including containment, communication and learning, not just technical cleanup.

How do you prioritize vulnerabilities when there are thousands open and the team is small?

What they are checking: Risk-based thinking using exploitability and asset criticality rather than patching purely by severity score.

We have both IT and operational technology on plant floors. How does securing OT differ from securing corporate systems?

What they are checking: Awareness that production systems cannot be patched or rebooted freely and that downtime is a safety and business risk.

How do you approach security across hybrid cloud, SaaS and endpoints when you don't control every system directly?

What they are checking: Practical understanding of shared responsibility and the controls that matter in a mixed environment.
