Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a control you tested that the client believed was working but wasn't. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they rely on evidence over the client's word and can deliver a finding without damaging the relationship.

As a senior, how do you review a staff member's workpapers and give feedback that helps them improve?

What they are checking: Whether they are ready to supervise, catch quality issues early and develop junior staff instead of redoing their work.

Tell me about a time you had to explain a technical security risk to someone without a technical background.

What they are checking: Whether they can turn a control gap into business risk that an executive or compliance officer will act on.

How do you keep current on cybersecurity threats and changes to the frameworks you test against?

What they are checking: Whether they invest in staying current, since framework versions and threat patterns change every year.

What would you do

A client's evidence for a control is a screenshot with no date or system name on it. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they understand evidence reliability and will push back politely when evidence would not hold up to QA review.

You're juggling three client engagements and two of them have the same deadline. Walk me through how you handle it.

What they are checking: Whether they manage time across clients and raise conflicts to a manager early instead of missing a date quietly.

About the work

Walk me through how a HITRUST assessment works, from scoping to submission, and where you've been involved.

What they are checking: Whether they have real HITRUST experience or only know the name, since this role is built around the framework.

How would you explain the difference between HITRUST e1, i1 and r2 to a healthcare client deciding which one to pursue?

What they are checking: Whether they can advise a client on the tradeoff between assurance level, effort and what their customers will accept.

How do you test a logical access control, like user provisioning and termination, and what evidence do you ask for?

What they are checking: Core IT audit testing skill, including sampling and knowing what a population and a good piece of evidence look like.

How does HIPAA connect to HITRUST, and how do you talk about that with a client who thinks one covers the other?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how the frameworks map to each other and can correct a client's assumption clearly.

Besides HITRUST, which frameworks have you worked with, like SOC 2, NIST CSF or ISO 27001, and how do they compare?

What they are checking: Breadth across frameworks, which shows they can reuse testing work and spot overlap for clients.
